Air Fryer Running Costs UK
Estimate cost per use, week, month and year from your air fryer wattage, cooking time, frequency and electricity tariff. The formula and evidence limits are visible, so the result can be checked rather than taken on trust.
A 1,500 W air fryer used for 30 minutes costs about 19.58p at 26.11p/kWh
That is a rated-power estimate, not a measured promise. Your own tariff, cooking time and the appliance heating cycle can change the result.
Your estimated cost
Standing charge is excluded because it is normally paid regardless of this appliance use.
Cost at rated power for one full hour: 39.17p(watts ÷ 1000) × (minutes ÷ 60) × unit rate

How to compare an air fryer with an oven without inventing savings
Compare the same food and portion. Record the minutes and measured kWh for each appliance where possible. A lower wattage is not automatically cheaper if the appliance runs for longer.
What a fair comparison needs
1. Same task: use the same food, weight and starting temperature.
2. Total energy: compare kWh for the whole session, not only the wattage on the label.
3. Useful result: confirm that both methods reached the same safe, acceptable cooking outcome.
4. Repeat: one cooking session may not represent different foods, batch sizes or appliance settings.

Frequently asked questions
Multiply its rated power in kilowatts by your electricity unit rate. At 1,500 W and 26.11p/kWh, a full hour at rated power is an estimated 39.17p. Real consumption may be lower when the heater cycles off.
No. A fair comparison needs the same food and portion, the time each appliance runs and preferably measured kWh. Wattage alone cannot prove which appliance is cheaper for a particular meal.
Not necessarily. Rated power is useful for a transparent upper-bound estimate, but thermostatic appliances can cycle their heating element. A plug-in energy meter provides a better appliance-specific measurement.
The standing charge is normally paid whether or not you use the air fryer, so adding it to a single cooking session would overstate the incremental cost of that session.
Yes. Replace the default pence-per-kWh figure with the unit rate shown on your bill. Fixed, time-of-use and regional tariffs can differ from the Ofgem average.
The benchmark is checked when Ofgem announces a new price-cap period. The source date and effective period remain visible so an older benchmark is not presented as current.
